In 1956, Theo Coertjens and his wife Monique started a small butcher’s in Borgerhout. Through hard work and a focus on quality, their business soon flourished. And the success story did not stop there. A local chip shop owner was looking for a special sort of knackwurst sausage and knew that he needed to go to Coertjens. The sausage was a hit and the rest, as they say, is history…

- 1956 – The butcher’s opens!
- 1970 – Start of 'Stew' production in cans, high-quality food for home use.
- 1990 – Exports to France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the UK begin.
- 2003 – We obtain the highest quality label (AA) in line with the BRC and IFS standards.
- 2019 – Veggie and halal production line starts.
- 2020 – Special times prompt us to introduce 18 new products.
- 2024 – Coertjens adopts a new style and enters a new era.

So now we can supply retail, food service (events, catering, leisure, sport, petrol, hospitality) and industry with a range of high-quality products that focuses on taste, quality and convenience for businesses..
60 passionate employees
Coertjens produces 3,000 tonnes of high-quality meat and veggie products in Belgium every year. With our own Research & Development lab and biological water treatment system, we always strive for excellence and sustainability in production. We capitalise on new trends in the food industry and do about two new launches per year on average. Together with 60 passionate employees. That’s quite something, isn’t it?
Quality
We have had the highest IFS and BRC label, that is grade AA, ever since 2003. We take care of 100% of our production, 33% of which involves solar energy. This underlines our commitment to quality and sustainability!
Where can you find us?
Over the years, Coertjens has had premises in four places. From Borgerhout we moved to Deurne before finally ending up in Brecht. A little later we also started a production site in Liege to supply hospitality businesses further south with quality!
